Richard Burbage

1569-1619

The son of James Burbage, Richard Burbage was the leading actor of The Lord Chamberlain's Men (later King's Men) from 1594 to his death. He created many of Shakespeare's plays in such roles as "Richard III", "Hamlet", "Othello" and "King Lear". He was also famous for his Hieronimo in Kyd's "The Spanish Tragedy". He was also known as a scene-painter.
